Where should you purchase your parrot?
You can purchase a parrot from a pet store or adopt from a rescue or sanctuary.
There is nothing wrong with any of these options. In fact if you are
knowledgeable about parrots then adopting from a rescue is a good thing to do.
However, if you want to know exactly how your parrot was raised and handled
then you should purchase it only from a reputable parrot breeder.
How a parrot is raised as a youngster has an effect on how they interact throughout their lives.
The more handling the better, they will imprint with humans, and the more sociable
they will become. A handfed, hand raised parrot generally has a very
sweet and outgoing personality.
Breeders are responsible for many aspects of your future bird’s care; such a raising
fruits and vegetables, pellets, sprouts and warm, soft foods.
If we start out feeding our babies correctly it eliminates problems as they mature.
Another big responsibility is weaning the parrot babies properly before they’re
sent to their new homes. Here at The Fussy Parrot we make sure our babies
are weaned and eating well on their own before they leave here, we also let our babies fledge.
Flying aids in muscle development and circulation and a healthy attitude.
Once they have learned to fly we will slightly clip the feathers to keep them
from flying into the walls and windows. If you have the room and a place for them to
fly, let us know and we’ll will not clip them.
Parrots can live up to 30-60 years! So be sure to find the right
breeder so you and your parrot will enjoy a happy life together,
and be sure you are ready for this life long commitment.
